NJ Hall of Fame Mobile Museum

"Progress Endures"

At a time when school budgets are tight and field trips are being curtailed in many districts, the New Jersey Hall of Fame has started work on the creation of a mobile museum. This “field trip on wheels” will offer a cost effective alternative and very attractive opportunity for educators.

The mobile museum not only will provide an efficient way to introduce the New Jersey Hall of Fame inductees to a student audience, but it will enhance community participation.

The museum would be available to visit a community for a full day, providing time for all grade levels to visit, which makes it appealing to school districts. Then after school, the museum will remain open for families and other community groups to enjoy and learn from the exhibits.

The mobile museum will be based on a 53-foot double expandable trailer which provides for almost 1,000 square fee of exhibit space. When on the road, the trailer is the standard 8.6’ wide by 53’ long. Once parked at an exhibit location, the trailer expands from both sides opening up to 23.4’ wide by 36.5’ long. The height is 13.5’.

Created around the theme Progress Endures the Mobile Museum will explore these crucial questions:  What is the spark that ignites change on a grand scale? How is progress made? And perhaps most importantly, how does change become progress?

The future is shaped by ambitious individuals who seek to improve life as they know it. This multimedia exhibition uses images, artifacts, and interactivity to explore the important contributions of New Jersey Hall of Fame inductees that have not only shaped our state, but the world as well.

Each object on display highlights important chapters in the evolution of social, economic, scientific, cultural, and political progress for which these iconic New Jersey figures are known.

The Mobile Museumwill bring these major accomplishments to life through an ongoing process of rotating informational displays and objects, as loans are returned and new objects are made available. The rotation of objects also allows for the discussion of additional noteworthy figures when new representatives are included in the Hall of Fame.

Hall of Fame architect and designer Michael Graves will be the lead designer for the Mobile Museum and the world renown museum consulting firm Ralph Appelbaum Associates will handle project management and implementation. The goal is to have the museum on the road by the fall of 2012

The Hall of Fame is currently seeking sponsors for the Mobile Museum and is open to inquiries. Individuals or companies interested in becoming a part of this innovative learning tool should contact our office.
